Biography :
Submerge The Sky is a six-piece band, hailing from the industrial wasteland of Edmonton, Alberta. Founded by members Abel Black and Chris Scouten, STS was started with the intent of creating a band that was capable of breaking out of the local music scene. "It's not that I dislike people in Edmonton, I just dislike this city" Abel states, "It's cold, and it's the perfect place to be a host for depression".
Submerge The Sky also strives to create it's own original sound, with musical influences ranging from August Burns Red to Matthew Good Band. Dave explains "People often tell us that we're 'ruining metal', but I don't look at us as a metal band. I find it hard to place ourselves in any particular genre. We could be considered rock, alternative, southern rock, hardcore, metal, pop, screamo, experimental - hell - maybe even blues in some aspects, but we don't feel bound to any particular genre". Jon goes on to say "When we write music, nothing is forced; it's a natural process. We jam something out and everything just falls into place".
Submerge The Sky is currently working with Brad Simons from Velveteen Audio to record their first full length CD (currently untitled). The first single from the CD, titled "The Pyramid Effect" which was followed by "I Met Her In A Nightmare", are simply an early taste of what is to come. You can expect the CD to be out early in the new year! Matt says "Recording this cd has been a long process, and I think we've all grown as musicians since we started. Although we are eager to finish the CD and release it, we are already in the writing process again and you can expect that another album won't be too far behind!"
"I think that one of the things that most people find appealing about our band is our stage presence. When the music starts, we make a commitment to be sure we don't have an ounce of energy left by the end of the set!" exclaims Chris. Their footwork hasn't gone unnoticed either.
Aside from earning a spot on Wapred Tour 2010 in Edmonton, they have already opened up for We Came As Romans, Blessthefall, Before Their Eyes, Greeley Estates, In Fear and Faith, Upon a Burning Body, and will soon open up for The Devil Wears Prada, Silverstein, and For Today. "We want to take this as far as we can" says Toast, "Every one of us is passionate toward this band - so keep your eyes open wide and your ears even wider because we're going to do what it takes to be heard!"
